LEY K4-ERA
TRANSMISSION #LEY
«Hot!»
Aidan was already in. Thirty-eight degrees, smell of sulfur, water that tasted of volcanic rock.
«Is this the warmest one?» Sophia was spreading her towel on the edge. April in Naples had that light that doesn’t ask permission.
«The fire of the Campi Flegrei is still burning underneath. We’ve been swimming above it for three thousand years without thinking about it.»
«Then don’t think about it.» She smiled without looking at him.
Fifty-five years old, five-seven, green eyes that had already seen enough. He still wanted to live and love – he knew it from his body, not from his head.
His glasses had slipped.
He went under for one second, just one second, to get them from the bottom.
When he came back up, the water was the same.
The people weren’t. Sophia gone. In her place – no one he knew.
And one he recognized without knowing it.
– – –
LEY
She was blonde. Straight hair. Slight – the kind of slight that doesn’t need space to be seen.
Aidan smiled before he decided to.
«Nice day.»
«The sea’s still cold. Better here.» Without looking at him. As if they’d already been talking for ten minutes.
«I feel like I know you.»
Then she looked at him.
Clear eyes. Not grey, not blue. The color that has no name.
«In your dreams.»
Aidan should have laughed. He didn’t.
«How would you know that?»
«I’ve been far away. But I never stopped thinking about you.»
«When did we meet?»
«In what you’d call another life.»
«I remember dreams…»
«We were together. You were my love.»
«I forgot?»
«They erase the memories at every crossing. That’s the rule. Not mine.»
Aidan looked at her. He was searching for something in that familiar face – not a specific memory, something older. The shape of an absence that had always worn that face without his knowing.
«Who are you?»
«Ley.» The way you say your name only to someone who already knows it. «Ley K4-ERA. Researcher, pilot, hybrid – the right word doesn’t exist in your language.»
«Where do you come from?»
«From a dimensional plane that occupies the same space as Earth but at a different frequency. Like two radio stations broadcasting across the same territory without ever interfering.»
She paused.
«Almost never.»
Aidan said nothing for a moment. Then: «Why here?»
«Tell me something,» she said. «Do you think you’re still right now?»
«I’m in a pool.»
«You’re spinning with the Earth at a thousand miles an hour. Orbiting the Sun at sixty-seven thousand. Riding the galaxy at over three hundred thousand. All of it, all at once, and your brain calls it stillness because you’re synchronized with everything else.»
She paused.
«I changed frequency. No engine needed. Just use the Earth as a dynamo for energy. I rotate an infinitesimal fraction of all that velocity toward an axis you never use. The friction doesn’t slow anything in normal space. It converts. And the tunnel doesn’t push – it aims the fall.»
«Toward me.»
«Toward the point where your choices had made you evolve. Maybe you cleared a level and unlocked something. Whoever reduces entropy becomes visible. And I found you again. Even if you don’t recognize me.»
A brief pause.
«Aidan, I can take you with me. And bring you back here, if you want.»
«I have two daughters,» Aidan said. The way you say something that doesn’t need defending.
«Geenia wants to change the rules that were written wrong. Florence works on aircraft and spacecraft.»
He looked at the ship above the pool.
«They’re waiting for me.»
He moved toward Ley.
Every woman he’d ever had looked something like Ley.
Only now was it clear that Ley was the only original he’d always been looking for.
The ship had appeared above the thermal pool like a thought – translucent, semi-transparent, a presence that didn’t displace the light but filtered it. No one seemed to see it but him. Or maybe they saw it and called it a reflection.

HE GOT ON
Aidan looked at his phone.
Then he looked at Ley.
He got on.
– – –
HYPEREARTH
«How many years have we been together, Ley?»
«Ten, Aidan.»
«Time moves differently here. The years don’t have the shape of Earth years.»
«Different times and places.» Ley pointed to the horizon. «What you call HyperNaples, on the sea, with a Vesuvius dressed in structures that use it as an energy source instead of fearing it. HyperRome layered on historical frequencies all visible at once, like overlapping x-rays. Every city is the technological transfiguration of an earthly city. Or the other way around.»
«But on Earth they don’t notice alien ships moving through spacetime like planes through a normal airport.»
«True.» Aidan looked at the sea. «But they can watch a dawn from a boat. And there’s nothing like it in the known universe.»
Ley watched Aidan watching the sea.
«No,» she said. «There isn’t.»
She wasn’t talking about the dawn.

APRIL
They stepped off the semi-transparent ship. Below, the Agnano thermal baths.
«Feel like home?» Ley said.
«April. Same light, same water, same smell of underground volcano.»
Aidan was thinking about his daughters. Ley knew.
«There’s nothing to decide,» Aidan had told her. «The decision was made the moment Geenia and Florence were born.»
They stepped into the pool.
Ley kissed him.
She held him.
The thermal water was the same temperature as both of them.
«Every woman I ever loved was an imperfect copy of you.»
Ley didn’t answer. She rested her forehead on his shoulder. The way someone does when they don’t need to confirm what they’ve always known.
The separation had no word. It had only a physics – two objects that had moved together at the same frequency now returning to separate ones. Energy doesn’t disappear. It changes form.
His glasses slipped.
Aidan bent down.
He went under.
– – –
He came up.
The April light. The water. The people around him – the same as before, the same as always.
No blonde woman with eyes the color that has no name.
He picked up his glasses.
He got out of the pool.
He took out his phone.
Sophia was sunbathing on the lounger.
Two messages. Geenia: «Dad, when are you coming back?» Florence: «You okay?»
He wrote: «On my way.»
Ley was missing. And that frequency doesn’t erase – not even when they erase the memories.
